Well howdy y'all!... nobody has spoken like that to me but then I haven't got to the Hill Country yet... They are pretty darn friendly though. And polite. Like the biker who was walking up to a vintage store at the same time as I was and said "If you let me, I'll open that door for you. I don't want to race you for it" heh heh. So I'm sitting on the porch of Jo's Coffee tapping away writing this to you. The motel, which is next door, has free WiFi, but the walls are so thick that the signal isn't great. At one point there were 4 of us lined up with our MacBooks... Just looking at my little notebook to see what I have done... Next time I will bring my camera so I can take a picture of the Continental Club across the street. It's where I'll spend a few of my evenings. Why, just last night I was there to catch Heybale. Mock all you want but these guys are good. They fill the place at midnight on a Sunday. Celebrities, when they're in town, come to see them. I was disappointed not to see Brad Pitt or Sean Penn there. They are in town filming Terrence Malik's 'Tree of Life'. They were filming at the Capitol the other day. I was staying at a hotel right next door and was totally oblivious goddamit!... So my first day here I ate healthy Asian food at a place called Koriente where the girl was like, wow! Noo Zeeland, i love it, but your $2 coins are smaller than your $1... yeah, that's Australia.... anyway, the strawberry bubble tea with tapioca pearls was yum. Since then I've mostly had Tex-Mex and not the best of it. I've checked out a few vintage stores, mostly because my brother wants a Western shirt but because Rebecca will be very disappointed if I don't ;) . They are pretty cool though. Yesterday I went to Waterloo Records and only bought 3 CDs and 1 DVD which I thought was pretty restrained. At the current exchange rate the most I paid for a brand new CD was NZ$18. Then I went to Whole Foods Market, the original store. It is amazing. Quite beautiful for a supermarket. They are big on organics. I did go to the one in Kensington last year but that's got a strange layout and is on 3 floors. This is laid out like a regular supermarket and seems all the more impressive for it. They had a display for a Martinborough Pinot Noir :) . Well that's about all for now. The temperature is really nice. Not too hot. It's been pretty grey most of the time but hasn't rained much yet. Tomorrow I go pick up a rental car. Feeling a little nervous about driving but I have driven in this country before and only once turned into the wrong lane.

The Whole Foods Market sounds great - mindyou we do have the Farmers Market here in Dunedin.
And what is a strawberry bubble tea with tapioca pearls? Sounds yummy.

i'm really not sure to be honest. kind of like strawberry quik... i couldn't really taste the tea... the tapioca pearls are like balls of hard jelly. they give you a big ass straw to suck em up. i can't help talkin like this ;-) might get back to Whole Foods and see if they don't mind me taking a few photos. i do like the Dunedin FM but this place is in a different league!
